In the northern foothills of the city where the weather is cool and breezy, there is a large garden that witnesses the story of two dynasties kingdom in Iran and has many unspoken secrets. Saad Abad complex belongs to the late Qajar period and the first and second Pahlavi dynasty. Pahlavi dynasty had several exquisite palaces which were a meeting place for the most important and influential national and international officials in the old days. The complex, plus the natural forest, has a collection of plants and trees that were gathered from around the world, so the garden is also a botanical museum. The palaces in the garden became a museum after the revolution in 1979.
Saad Abad has a large garden and several pools and a beautiful lawn. Platanus trees in the garden are about three hundred years old. These trees are very high and tend to cover the sky of the garden. Since Saad Abad is located in the mountainous area and has a cool climate, it had been the summer residence of the king and his queen. The garden is full of lovely scenes as if it was made for lovers, not politicians. The autumn in this garden is veritable spectacular, the leaves of the high trees fall like rain on the ground. Saad Abad has several palaces, the most famous of which are the Melat palace and the Green palace.
Melat is the largest palace in the complex, it is famous to the white palace because of its white facades. This building was dedicated to government affairs. The process of building the palace began in 1931 and it ended in 1936. Although the palace has a simple appearance but interior plaster artwork is so spectacular and it is the outcome of the efforts of Iranian artists. Some interior walls were decorated with paintings on the theme of Shahnameh by Master Hossein Behzadi. The palace has many exquisite Iranian carpets, the largest of which is about 140 meters. In front of the palace, there is a statue of Reza Shah’s boots. It was a complete statue of Reza Shah that had been demolished and its remainder added to Saad Abad. This palace hosted the last USA president that travel to Iran (Jimmy Carter) in 1979. Jimmy Carter and his wife spent Christmas holidays in this palace.
After the revolution in 1979, most of the buildings in complex became museums. Two of the most fascinating museums in Iran are the Omidvar Brothers museum and Royal Cars Museum. The Omidvar brothers who started traveling over the world in 1945 by two motorcycles and they visited more than ninety countries in the world.
